To mark the 79th anniversary of the sinking of the Struma, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv together with the “Struma” Synagogue-Museum in Beer Sheva is organizing a commemorative event in Hebrew on February 18. from 17:00, and includes video recordings with messages from the Romanian Ambassador to Tel Aviv, Israeli officials and prominent members of the Romanian-speaking community. At the same time, images from the documentary film made with the only survivor on the Struma ship will be presented, as well as footage with the commemoration ceremony, inside the Struma Synagogue-Museum, in Beer Sheva. At the event whose initiative was taken by Baruch Tercatin, vice-president of the “Struma” Museum in Beer Sheva, and whose brother perished in the tragic event of 1942, will speak: HE Radu Ioanid, Ambassador of Romania to Israel; Arie Reiter, president of the Struma Museum; Rubik Danielovici, mayor of Beer Sheva; Colette Avital, president of the Union of Holocaust Survivors Organizations; Eyal Fabian, director of AMIR (Organization of Israelis of Romanian Origin); Baruch Tercatin, vice president of the Struma Museum in Beer Sheva; Yohai Cohen, researcher at the Yad Vashem Museum.
