I always thought it was called Ender's Shadow not because Bean was Ender's Shadow but because Bean was in Ender's Shadowl
Hey, I think your review is great, though to people who haven't read the book it might be a little confusing, because the part of Bean being an orphan, taken in by a nun and then taken to the sky to be trained at battleschool is kind of an understatement, and not at all the point of the story.
The point is, Bean is exeptionally bright and analytical, as all the children at battleschool, kind of like the créme de la créme of the world's youth in terms of intelligence, so what's going in on the book and the whole series is, that you not only follow Beans and/or Ender's story, but also their ways of thought and that's what makes them soooo unbelievingly incredible,
cause no "normal" kid would ever think that way, not even many adults would, and while I prefer Ender over Bean, cause Bean seems to me a little bit too rational, raw, I like this book far more than Ender's game, because this story sort of grows around the other one, enhances it, and shows the reader just how much was really going on behind the scenes of the battle school and ultimately the human world.
There's heaps of psychology and politics in there, so when I read it first, i realized it's not really a childrens -, lest a book for young adults, because the messages it sends and the thoughts it provokes go far deeper than the plain story of kid rescued by nun, sent to the sky to train and be the star of battle school.
I'd recommend this book to everyone who can read, it's one of the books I loved most so far 😀

My favorite line in Ender' Shadow was when Graff said "so Ender wiggin, a middle class American boy gets killed a person because he was bullying him. Meanwhile street urchin from Rotterdam Bean makes a serial killer who was out to kill him next turn himself in."
Just finished reading Ender's Shadow a few days ago. I thought the book was a good companion to Ender's Game, because, as we know, Ender was isolated many times during battle school. So, it was nice to get the perspective of another person who wasn't necessarily isolated like Ender. The book also creates different feelings about Ender through Bean's eyes. I thought Ender acted a bit like an douche when he first met Bean. That feeling was definitely not existent toward Ender during Ender's game.
I plan to read the entire Shadow Series then read the trilogy on the First Formic War.
